Ekiti state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has approved the N13,000 relativity pay agreed with the workers, this will take effect from May 1, this year.
While approving the agreement in Ado Ekiti on Monday, the governor noted that the development was in fulfillment of the promise made to the people of the state, especially workers, during the inauguration speech on October 16, 2010.
The People’s governor also pledged to be worker friendly by removing the noose of politics from the neck of the service; by allowing due process to drive discipline and merit to guide promotion and reward.
According to him, the meritorious and popular choice of the current Head of Service and the duly processed appointments of permanent Secretaries are parts of the structural salvation of our Civil Service. “Our government had undoubtedly restored the then elusive dignity of labour,” he said.
Fayemi listed some of the achievements of his administration to include; reducing considerably the fees paid by our sons and daughters in the State University, to a maximum of N50,000 where the parents are majorly our workers.
In the same vein, “our workers have just been granted their promotions which had been due since January 2010. Just last week, a total of 2,200 primary school teachers were promoted.”
“We have also liquidated a huge sum of N700 million pending to our retired workers, as well as the restoration of the car and housing loans cancelled by the previous regime in the state. Our workers could now be proud owners of serviceable personal cars and houses.”
Since October 15, 2010 when the people’s mandate was restored, our government had never broken any of its promises to the people and the workers became the political first line charge in savouring the dividends of our collective victory, he said.
The governor noted that, in the past few weeks, the administration has reviewed upward, the salary and emoluments of the health workers [the first to do so in the south west] and justice sector workers had also benefited with improved salaries. Within the limits of our lean resources, we had consistently met all the statutory obligations to our workers as and when due.
We know that our Civil Servants who suffered various indignities in the last three and a half years deserve a good deal from this administration, hence, no stone will be left unturned towards ensuring that we keep our promises to better the livelihood of our workers.
